Weight management

If you struggle with your weight, you aren't alone. And there is hope.

At Truman Medical Centers/University Health, you'll find your partners in weight loss. Our team includes weight-loss doctors (LINK TO PROVIDERS) and a nurse practitioner (LINK TO PROVIDERS). We're specialists in helping people shed unwanted pounds, and we provide a nonjudgmental environment. We'll work with you to create an achievable weight-loss plan based on your health and your goals.

Our weight-loss program

The people we help with weight loss all have a body mass index (BMI) above 27. But that's where the similarities end. Each person we work with is different, with unique needs and goals.

To learn about you and your needs, we'll start by performing a thorough medical evaluation to assess your overall health. If needed, we may perform advanced diagnostic testing. This could include metabolic testing or body composition analysis. We'll also review any medications you take to see if we can identify any that might promote weight gain.

Through the entire process our team will work with you. Together, we'll set an achievable weight-loss goal and develop a strategy to help you reach that goal. Your weight-loss plan might include:

  • Medical nutrition therapy with doctors and dietitians.
  • Weight-loss medication.
  • Input from healthcare providers in other disciplines.
  • Behavioral health support.

Truman Medical Centers/University Health doesn't offer metabolic bariatric surgery. However, we do provide referrals. We can also help you get ready for the procedure. This includes psychiatric evaluations, which are performed at Truman Medical Center Lakewood.
