Eligibility for benefits
Employees are eligible to be covered under our group medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, flexible spending/Section125, basic life, supplemental life, short-term disability, voluntary long-term disability and voluntary legal services if you are scheduled to work at least 48 hours per pay period. Coverage will be effective on the first day of the month following one month of employment except for short-term disability (see note below for eligibility waiting period)*.
Benefit-eligible employees have the choice between two medical plans: High Option and Tru-Saver Option..
Covered medical services rendered by a Truman Medical Centers/University Health provider, except Emergency Department services that do not result in a hospital admission, are paid at 100% by the plan. If you go outside of the health system, you have the option of using a Blue Cross Blue Shield network provider or going out of network.
Express Scripts is our pharmacy benefit manager. Employees enrolled in the medical coverage are automatically enrolled in the prescription drug plan.
Delta Dental of Missouri is our dental benefits carrier. Two plans are available.
The VSP vision plan uses VSP Choice network.
The Truman Medical Centers/University Health employee assistance program offers free, confidential information, short-term counseling, support and referral services for eligible employees and their dependents, with access to the 24/7 Helpline. Common examples include child care and elder care questions, family and relationship concerns, emotional and stress-related issues, financial and legal questions, grief and loss, and substance abuse problems.
The Truman Medical Centers/University Health Employee Wellness Program focuses on our employees' specific needs and challenges while promoting balance in mental, emotional/social, physical and spiritual well-being. Programs include fitness challenges, group fitness classes, health screenings, cooking and craft classes, and educational meetings. Employees who participate may be eligible for incentive rewards.
This plan enables employees to make contributions for medical, prescription drug, dental and vision premiums on a pretax basis.
You are covered for one times your salary rounded up to the next $1,000. The benefit is twice this amount in the event of an accidental death. Truman Medical Centers/University Health pays 100% of the cost for this coverage.
If you are enrolled in one of our medical plans with dependent coverage, your eligible dependents are covered for the following amounts:
- Spouse: $5,000.
- Each child (to age 26): $5,000.

Short-term disability provides income replacement to protect against a loss of income due to an employee's pregnancy/childbirth, disabling illness or injury.

*Employees are eligible to participate in the benefit plan if they are a regular status employee, scheduled to work 48 hours or more per pay period, and they have satisfactorily completed their first month of employment. Benefits commence on the first of the month following one month of employment.
