Pharmacy Practice Residency
Critical Care
Truman Medical Centers-Hospital Hill (TMC) is the primary teaching
hospital for the University of Missouri-Kansas City Schools of Medicine,
Nursing, and Pharmacy located in downtown Kansas City, Missouri (KCMO).
TMC has four intensive care units totaling 42-beds that care for critically
ill surgical, cardiac, and medical patients managed by board certified
pulmonary/critical care intensivists using a multidisciplinary approach.
TMCs Trauma Center is one of three adult Level I Trauma Centers in KCMO and
is part of a statewide trauma system. The Emergency Department (ED) provides
care for approximately 69,000 patients per year in a 52-bed unit, (including
three trauma rooms).
PGY-2 Critical Care Residency Program Goals
Pharmacists completing this residency will be competent and confident
practitioners in the area of critical care medicine. Over the course
of the year, they will continue to enhance their pharmacotherapeutic skills,
broaden their knowledge base, and serve as a vital clinical resource in
caring for the critically ill. Additionally, they will serve as a
preceptor and mentor to pharmacy students and PGY-1 residents.
Required rotations include critical care medicine, surgery/trauma, emergency
medicine, metabolic support and transplant with elective opportunities in
NICU/PICU, infectious disease, cardiology, and pulmonary services.
