Planned Giving through the William Volker Heritage Society
Donors who name the Truman
Medical Center Charitable Foundation in their estate plans
become
members of the William Volker Heritage Society.
This society reflects the spirit
of the
Kansas City
trailblazer, William Volker, who built his wealth as a business
entrepreneur and successful investor.
As his business prospered, Mr.
Volker turned his attention to public service and philanthropy. He
gave millions of dollars to charities and community trusts in
Kansas City, focusing especially on education
and health care. Mr. Volker was often called Kansas City's "First
Citizen."
Mr. Volker died in 1947, leaving
a generous estate gift to TMC's predecessor, Kansas City General Hospital. In 1979, the hospital board used this gift to create a permanent
endowment by establishing the hospital's Charitable Foundation. Its
annual earnings and distributions help sustain Truman Medical
Centers.
Today, others join Mr. Volker in
naming TMC in their estate plans, thereby helping to endow TMC's
continued financial vitality and to ensure our leadership role in
providing quality health care to the community, regardless of
ability to pay.
Examples of estate or deferred
charitable gifts that can offer tax advantages while benefiting TMC
include:
- Wills or
revocable trusts
- Charitable lead
trusts
- Charitable
remainder trusts
- Charitable gift
annuities
- Life insurance
policies
- Remainder
interests in real estate
- Charitable gift
distribution from qualifying retirement plans
