Truman Medical Centers Welcomes Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgeon Farzad Alemi, M.D

 

Truman Medical Centers (TMC) announced this week that Farzad Alemi, M.D., a Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgeon, has joined the staff at TMC Hospital Hill. 
 
“Dr. Alemi brings to us highly specialized surgical expertise and a prestigious educational background, and we are thrilled to have him join the TMC surgical staff,” said TMC Chief Medical Officer Mark Steele, MD. “The patients of the Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Center at Truman Medical Centers will greatly benefit from his services and he will provide them with state-of-the-art care and optimal outcomes.” 
 
HPB surgery is the operative treatment of benign and malignant conditions of the pancreas, liver, bile ducts and gallbladder.  Dr. Alemi is expert in minimally invasive surgical techniques including laparoscopic surgery, radiofrequency and microwave ablation that provide patients with quicker recovery and less pain.  He is also specializes in the more invasive open surgeries such as the pancreaticoduodenectomy (“Whipple” operation), distal pancreatectomy and liver resection.
 
Dr. Alemi earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a Master of Science Degree in Biology from Stanford University. He went on to complete his medical training at Stanford University School of Medicine and a residency in general surgery at the University of California – San Francisco. He recently completed a fellowship in HPB surgery at the Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, an internationally recognized institution for the treatment of HPB diseases.
