Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Premature and high-risk babies are cared for by a dedicated staff of neonatologists and neonatal nurses in our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
TMC focuses on family-centered, developmentally-supportive care. Parents and families are crucial to an infant's recovery and development, so we encourage and facilitate the strong presence and involvement of parents and family in the care we provide.
TMC is Baby-Friendly
Truman Medical Center Hospital Hill is the first and only Baby-Friendly hospital in Kansas City and the second in the state of Missouri as designated by the World Health Organization.
The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) is a global program that was launched by WHO and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in 1991 to encourage and recognize hospitals and birthing centers when they have implemented the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. These steps are designed to promote breastfeeding as the generally preferred method for providing nutrition to newborns and infants.
