Prerequisites & Admissions

Minimum requirements for admission to the program are:

  1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent (a related basic science degree) and graduation from an approved school of nursing.
    1. Organic Chemistry - upper level (>300)
    2. Biochemistry (undergraduate) encouraged, not required.
  2. A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better (where A = 4.0). Special emphasis is placed on GPA achieved in science-based courses (science and math GPA > 3.0).
  3. Graduate Record Exam:  >1000 for verbal and quantitative combined; 4.0 or greater for analytical.
  4. Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) & Pediatric Advanced  Life Support (PALS) certifications.
  5. Minimum one year critical care experience (ICU strongly preferred).
  6. Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in Missouri*.
  7. Completion of the application materials.
  8. Acceptance by UMKC Graduate School of Biological Sciences**.
  9. Personal interview with Admissions Committee.
