NA 500 Broad Field Orientation  

A broad fields orientation to nurse anesthesia with an introduction to the fundamental anesthetic principles and professional aspects of nurse anesthesia practice. Includes orientation to the clinical area through observation and planned clinical experiences.

 

     
NA 501 & NA 502 Basic Principles of Anesthesia I & II  

Fundamentals of anesthesia practice for the nurse anesthetist. Topics include pharmacology of inhalation and intravenous anesthetic agents, monitoring and equipment, airway management, anesthetic techniques for general and regional anesthesia, and principles of intravenous crystalloid and colloid therapy.

 

     
NA 503 Pharmacology and Anesthesia I & II  

A self instructional program which reviews the physiologic responses to drug interactions in anesthesia. Topics include Pharmacokinetics and Dynamics as well as a review of general drug classifications.

 

     
NA 504 Obstetrical Anesthesia  

A comprehensive review of the anesthetic management of the obstetrical patient. Topics include physiologic changes associated with pregnancy, regional anesthesia, pharmacology and obstetrical complications.

 

     
NA 505 Anesthesia and Co-Existing Diseases I & II  

A self instructional program which reviews the patho-physiologic processes and their effects on the aneshthetic management of patients.

     
NA 506 Regional Anesthesia  

A comprehensive review of the anesthetic techniques and the physiologic responses to a variety of regional blocks. Topics include Bier, spinal, epidural, caudal, interscalene, axillary and intercostal blocks.

 

     
NA 507 Pain Management  

A comprehensive review of pain pathways and the pharmacology of acute pain management. Topics include a review of the neuraxial approach to pain management, as well as types of delivery systems.

Comprehensive review of subject areas that will be covered on the certification examination.

 

     
NA 509 Professional Aspects I & II  

A self study and lecture series, which introduces the student to the profession of nurse anesthesia. Topics include: qualifications of CRNA's, governmental regulations, reimbursment and malpractice issues.

 

     
NA 510 Morning Conference  

Lectures, seminars, and case presentations on selected topics, current journal articles, and cases presented by students, instructors and guest lecturers to anesthesia department personnel. Each presentation concludes with a discussion and question-answer period.

 

     
NA 511 Pediatric Anesthesia  

A comprehensive review of the aneshthetic management of the pediatric patient. Topics include airway anatomy, pharmacology, physiology and anesthesia for specific pediatric surgical procedures.
