Truman Medical Centers Employees are “Proud to be Truman”

KANSAS CITY, MO – Truman Medical Centers (TMC) announces the launch of the 2008 Proud to be Truman Campaign. Proud to be Truman is an employee sponsored program organized by a committee of TMC employee volunteers to raise money annually for projects that directly benefit TMC patient care. Each year, projects are selected for Hospital Hill, Lakewood, and Behavioral Health. Projects typically include enhancements to the hospital that improve the delivery of patient care or patient satisfaction and create a pleasing experience for the patients of TMC.

This year’s Proud to be Truman campaign has a goal of $75,000 and the proceeds will go toward purchasing items including:

  • TVs to improve patient satisfaction in both hospitals’ Emergency Department Exam Rooms
  • New Waiting Area Furnishings for Lakewood’s Pharmacy and North Entrance
  • Healing Garden enhancements for Behavioral Health

“I have said time and time again that TMC has the best employees who truly care about our patients and believe in what we try to do here each day,” said John Bluford, President and CEO of TMC.

“Without our employees’ tireless dedication and hard work, we would not be able to provide the top quality, state-of-the art healthcare we give all our patients at Truman.”

The majority of the money given by employees comes through pledges, which are payroll deducted throughout the year. Money is also raised through a sale of shirts, book fairs and restaurant promotions. Since Proud to be Truman’s inception in 2003, over $150,000 has been donated by over 1,000 employees to help make TMC a better place for patients.

“It is only because of the wonderful support of our generous employees, that these projects have been completed and are now being used to enhance patient care,” said John Marshall, Executive Director of the TMC Charitable Foundation.

“Employees who believe in the mission of this hospital are what keep us working everyday to serve the Kansas City community.”
